While there are many lists on the
Web, there is a small group of authoritative lists that have
been compiled by and for medical librarians to guide collection
development. These lists can also serve as a guide to the
"must have" journals for publication planning or
other initiatives.
Brandon/Hill list
19th edition, 2001
A US initiative, started
in 1965 and regularly updated since. The goal of this list
is to provide medical librarians with a guide for collection
development. The full text can be found on PubMed
Central.
Core
Collection
4th edition, 2001
A UK/International
initiative produced by the Medical
Information Working Party (Website),
originally designed to provide an international alternative
to the Brandon/Hill list. An electronic and updated version
is planned for early 2003.
